Carton size changes a shipping quote because a forwarder needs both physical weight and the space occupied. Confirm the exact SKU and current pack-out before asking for rates.
Start with the packed unit
Request retail-box dimensions, sets per master carton, master-carton length, width and height, and gross weight. Record inner packs and protective inserts. A packaging revision can change carton count and booked space.
Compare weight and volume on one basis
Multiply carton length × width × height using one unit. Keep gross weight separate and ask the forwarder which chargeable rule applies to the chosen service. This worksheet supplies quote inputs; it is not a freight-rate prediction.
Send a complete freight request
- Exact SKU and sellable-set quantity
- Sets per master carton and carton count
- External dimensions and gross weight
- Origin, destination, service and trade term
- Quote exclusions, duties and destination fees
Check cost per sellable set
Compare the shipment quote, then divide by the confirmed sellable sets. Keep duties, taxes and destination charges separate. A smaller retail box is not automatically cheaper if it increases carton count or protection needs.
